Derek here - welcome to my site.
I have created this site for 2 reasons, I have a passion for Karate and Karate Kata so I scour the internet for information on Karate Kata and I want to bring it all together in one place. Plus I want to share what I find and share my passion for Karate and Kata with all of you.
I am in my mid 30's (well late 30's really but I will hang on to the mid for another year I reckon :) ). I started Karate when I was about 12 years old back in Dublin Ireland. I always remember walking into my first class and being in awe of all the black belts. They looked so confident and focused and powerful. To me they all looked like karate experts. I made a decision that first day in class that I one day would become a black belt.
Throughout my teens I trained on and off until I achieved my 1st kyu grade but then I was of age to head off traveling and partying around the world and needless to say karate as was everything else in my life was put on a bit of a back foot.
I finally settled down in Queensland Australia and luckily enough found myself living close to probably one of the best Dojos in the world.
After so many years away from training I obviously had to start back at the basics again which was great for my Karate. I took a slow and steady path to finally achieving that goal I had set back when I was 12 and I gained my Shodan in 2009. I now know that those black belts I saw when I walked into my first lesson were not experts but they were dedicated and obviously passionate about Karate and they were only beginning their true learning of Karate.
I hope you enjoy this site and contribute something to it and get something out of it. My wish is to make this the best Karate Kata site on the net.
